A COMIC ARTIST'S RESPONSE TO APOCALYPTIC NEWS

4/27/2023

As I mentioned last week, my comic project has now progressed to the point where the script is outlined from beginning to end.

Among the 84 pages are inked and colored pages, as well as many pages with only the character frameworks. Now, I am working on completing those pages using my iPad and Apple Pencil, and adding inks and colors. I received positive feedback from friends on the pages I've been working on recently. One concern I have is that the finished comic might look inconsistent, since the project is long and my skills are constantly improving.

Yes, I have many pages left to go from this...

...to this.

World events have somewhat affected my motivation to work on this project.

Global conflicts seem to be escalating, and there seems to be no end in sight for the conspiracy theories that thrive on them. I'm not sure how this affects other people, but for me, I've noticed these events draining my energy. When I feel anxious about world news, I try to create shocking illustrations that take my mind off the news. Hopefully, this comic will allow people to momentarily forget about their daily lives and take a break from the turmoil happening around the world.

My dog, Conan, has also continued to bring joy and inspiration to help move this project forward. Conan fills my emotional battery by being his cheeky self. I drew a short strip of us, which I'll attach here. Conan doesn't actually come to me wearing a knight's armor, but instead, he brings me socks. It's his way of hinting that it's time for a break from work and to go outside. So, socks on and let's go.

I added a new favorite comic to the respective section on my website. I wrote about why I love the RoboCop vs The Terminator comic and why it's the best sequel to both movies, right after T2 and RoboCop 2. You can click on the button above to check out my favorite comics or follow this link to go directly to my write-up on RoboCop vs The Terminator. It's a lengthy piece with justifications, giving an in-depth view of why the comic means so much to me.

Let's keep our spirits up and persevere, even though we live in challenging times.

My comic project is proof that we can find inspiration and strength in art, even when world events seem overwhelming. I believe that ultimately, this project will not only help me but also provide readers with a momentary respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and their concerns. I hope it offers people their adventure, entertainment, or inspiration for their own projects.

Thank you for following my project and sharing your thoughts. I am grateful for your support and encouragement, and I hope we can continue to explore and enjoy the world of comics together.
